This game is based on comedian Martin Short's famous Ed Grimley character originally featured on Canada's SCTV comedy show and later cast on Saturday Night Live in the US. In 1988-89, Short's Ed Grimley was the title charactor in a Saturday morning show called 'The Completely Mental Misadventures of Ed Grimley.' (In case you don't remember him by name, Ed is Martin's character with the large, pointed hair spike). From Tiger's 1989 Toy Fair catalog: "Maneuver Ed in front of his apartment as he tries to save his prized possessions while jumping over an ever growing pile of garbage and a manhole, all while avoiding flying pianos, TV's, etc."
