I know there's a thread for 'best' playable games around here, but here's an slightly different take on the idea. For someone like me who is fairly new at the handheld end of classic gaming, I'm finding it hard to focus on what to pick up next, now that I have most of the common, popular games from Coleco, Entex ect. I'm curious what some of you who have the really big collections like in regards to the more obscure titles that do not get much press.

A good example in my fairly limited collection would be Alien Attack. While not rare, it's completely overshadowed by it's other Coleco tabletop brethren, yet it has turned out to be a fantastic little game. I never would have known that without buying it, as there are almost no reviews of any of these games anywhere on the 'net so far as I can tell.

So what are your favorite 'underdog' games? Whether it be rarity, unpopularity, or whatever the case may be.

My own are:

Alien Attack:As I said before, this is an awesome, fast, and challenging little game.

Kingman: Best DK clone around in my book. Very fun, and hideously orange Mr. Green

Frisky Tom: Fantastic little gem of a game. One of my top two favorite VFD games.

What are yours?

One that I was pleasantly surprised with is Bandai's Hyper Olympic 5 game.

I have a mint boxed one, and I don't like to play with those. I got a second (more to resell than anything), and AFTER it sold it on Ebay I figured I'd better play the thing just to make sure it works... Rolling Eyes

Well, after playing it for half an hour, I didn't want to get rid of it! I sent it off to it's new owner, but now I'm looking for another loose one just to play. It turns out that it's really fun to play (especially if you ever liked the Track and Field arcade, it plays exactly like this). I just found myself laughing at myself and how ridiculous I must look trying to pound two little buttons like a mad man. (This was at work, too... Razz ) Good graphics too.

Tomy's Mr. Go!/Mr. Do! is pretty fun too, and really colorful.

Yeah, I bet. That is my #1 most wanted handheld game. I have the full size coin-op cab in my kitchen. I have yet to see one on ebay. I don't suppose anyone has a spare? Mr. Green

I know NE146 has one of the Hyper Olympic Challenge games, and he has posted a couple of times about how good it was.

Uhh... This might be one of those 'Duhhh' type moments, but I never really registered what NE146's user name was. I never actually tried saying each letter individually until I was reading Thag's post... Assuming it means what I think it means...

I think I'll just keep it to myself... Mr. Green
