Jeff over at www.adventurevision.com is selling a lot of Adventure Vision stuff right now (boxed systems and cartridges...) If you are in need of one of these, now is your chance!

Maybe I can afford the dog-chewed Super Cobra he put up on eBay, to go with my flaky $79 AV. |

Probably... Especially if you have any experience with electronics. There's always the chance that there's a major problem, but if it's just a burned out diode or something relatively easy to fix, it would be worth it. (And if it has the battery cover and expansion cover... that would be good to know too.)
I've had two broken ones sent to me in the past, and I was able to get them both working again... The system is always a little touchy- have to have the cartridges in just right, maybe turn it on/off 2 or 3 times to get it to actually start, etc... I collect because of what it is, not because I like to actually play it...
BTW, how many people here actually have an AV?

I don't think it's been sold yet. I want one, but I don't think I can afford even a broken one.
EDIT: Oh wait, yes it has. |

I think those of us who had these systems when they were first out AND we were young and impressionable enough actually enjoy playing the AV games.
I still to this day love Turtles and the Turtles music.
And you are soo right about these systems being finicky. The dead system that sold was the one that was used to create the emulator. It was completely taken apart and re-assembled AND it still worked for years. (some of you may have played it at a PhillyClassic or ECGE show) Then one day it just wouldn't start up. I always meant to take it apart and see if it was something simple but never had the time. Hopefully for the person who bought it it will prove to be something silly.
I have had a few systems pass through my hands and almost all of them had some sort of issue. Some of the mirrors looked really out of balance and shaky while others would just not load Turtles. Then some of them would suffer from the "loose ribbon cable" display where some of the LEDs would go out and on depending on how you touched the controls. Then there was one that would not play Super Cobra... I think that game is the hardest on the "power circuit" used in the AV display. The terrain was a battery killer back when I was a kid(and didn't have an adapter). I remember only playing that game when I had a fresh set of batteries.
Quirky system indeed.
Thanks for the thread Rik and I hope you keep up the great work around here!
[edit]Thanks for the warm welcome! |
