there's an old thread from 2008 with incorrect information in it regarding the adventure vision power adapter. you need a 2.5mm mini tip for the system, not a 3.5mm headphone-jack-style as previously mentioned.

so buy this tip:
http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3870005

along with the 1000mA (1A) AC-to-DC power adapter.

set the on-board switch to 6 volts.

the adventure vision requires positive tip polarity:
(-)-----( o -----(+)

so line up the letter "E" and the (+) sign with the word "TIP" on the end of the plug.

it worked for a minute, even though i just got some (not all) red lines across the screen. then it shut itself off and won't power up anymore.

i may need to send this baby off to someone who knows what they're doing so i can get fixed. ...Rik?

edit: ok now the mirror is spinning SUPER slowly, no LEDs.

I've seen that problem before, it's extremely common with these... There's a diode that's fried, I think that was also mentioned in a previous thread. If you turn the game on while it's open, it (the diode) probably gets REALLY hot (in fact, you can probably find it by the burn marks on the circuit board, I seem to remember it's near the lower right corner of the board. Black round diode with rather thick wires coming out of it). Careful- it will burn you, don't try to find it by touch unless you are really careful...

If you are comfortable with it, remove this diode and try powering on the game. If the game suddenly seems to work, then you have that problem. I've left an AV running without this diode for a long time, but I assume it's there for a reason. Cool I can't remember what the complete fix was, as I think if you replace the diode, the problem comes back, something else is damaging it. Probably a transistor.

Let me look at my play-with AV and see if I ever replaced that diode... I had always meant to figure out the root problem, but not sure if I ever did... It'll be next week though before I can get to it.

And I can't believe I never noticed that I mentioned the wrong A/C adapter... Rolling Eyes But usually the all-in-one adapter have multiple tips.

Hehe, yeah, it's not the most fun thing in the world to take apart. Smile

Shoot me a PM if you want to send it to me, I should be able to fix it.

Heh, yeah, I like his LED fix... I've always wanted to replace them with white LEDs or something, but I just can't do it to a working AV, and I've never gotten one with bad LEDs before... Maybe someday I'll sacrifice one that looks really beat up or something. Cool
