Hi folks,
This is a question that been bugging me for quite a time. We already know
that many arcade games have been ported in VFD handhelds/tabletops
like the Coleco Arcade Tabletops (Pac-Man, Ms.Pac-Man, Frogger...) or some
Gakken's like Frogger, Amidar, Dig Dug, etc... just to name a few.
But which arcade game(s) you would have loved to see in VFD format ?
Here's some few suggestions for starters:
* Centipede (Atari) (there is a fake handheld done, and it's great!)
* Berzerk (Stern) (Coleco was supposed to release it, never did )
* Tempest (Atari) (only exist in LCD keychain by Tiger)
* Moon Patrol (Williams) (this one too exists in LCD, either by Gakken or by Tiger in keychain format)
* Vanguard (SNK/Centuri) (my all-time favorite arcade game)
So which game(s) you have loved to see ?

I'll add another question: How does it look like? Use your imagination to draw a VFD element that is capable of running the game in a close-to-arcade way. |

Hi blanka,
Good question you added!
I did a mock-up screen shot of the Coleco Berzerk:
I tried to do it the best i could. But if you check the mock-up, there is no
way that the game could have been done. Same problem with the mock-up
screen on the VFD Coleco Donkey Kong Jr.
Here's the picture of the VFD D.K. Jr.:
And here's the pre mock-up i've made based on the real screen:
and here's what i imagined that would it could really be (playfield all
light-up):
And finally, here's the screen shot of the fake Centipede handheld
simulator done by Adam Nightingale for the Retro Remakes Mini
Competition Entry 2006 contest:
Now i just need to do screens for Tempest, Moon Patrol and Vanguard.
