Why don't lots of people like LCD's? I know you guys don't want to pay $300 for a g&w, but if there a good price, why not?

Personally it's a timing thing, let me explain, when the LCD's came out i was beggining to lose interest in handhelds games, it was the big arcade boom and i was a teenager. So they don't bring memories back for me. And also with all the LED and VFD games available i'll have a pretty nice collection.

By the way sometimes my english is not very good, i apologize.

Although, technically, there were LCD games back in 1979 (Microvision) and then in the early 80s (the Tiger LCDs). I like those myself.

Some of the LCDs I get into, but for the most part I'm just as excited about the little G&W sized LCD games. It's probably also a memories type thing, I really remember the Mattel sports games and Coleco arcade games, so the LED/VFD games mean more to me...

I like them just fine, and some of the g&w are very fun. I think the problem with the LCDs is that so many of them are cheap, derivative junk. Most of the VFD games are pretty good to fantastic, are colorful, and generally well made. Many (but certainly not all) of the LCD games are not, just because the media is so cheap to produce. There are like a million of those 'move left and right while dodging or catching crap' games.

With me, I'm reluctant to spend lots of money on an LCD game I have not played because 50% of the time, the game is not so good. If I find one I like, I do track it down. Unfortunately, most of the good games are Game & Watch (expensive), really rare (expensive) or imported (expensive).

Why pay eighty bucks for a little LCD game when I can get a glorious, loud, colorful VFD game that looks like an arcade machine? That's what usually happens with me, anyway.

Actually Mario, if you want to help win me over, give me a list of some of your favorite LCD games. That way, I know a few to look for. Other than a few G&W games, I know little about the older ones.

All the games in this series:

are REALLY cool, fun to play, and REALLY colorful! Cool

BMX Flyer can be found fairly cheap (usually in the U.K.), the rest get kind of pricey...

Very nice, Rik! I *really* want one of the Mr Do/Go games. Neil showed me an auction for one, but I couldn't swing the triple digit price tag right now. I wasn't aware that there was a whole series of LCD games like this. I love the color LCD games I have played. Donkey Kong Jr is outstanding.

So are those tomy 3D binocular games.

Pretty much what Thag said. Most are cheaply made with bad graphics. Unlike with Mego's where I am a recovering completist, I dont yet feel the need to buy a bad looking/playing game just to fill a hole. Sadly, many LCD's fall in to the above description. Again, like Thag said, why pay all of that money when I can purchase a VFD game that plays and looks great?
