Hello,
May I introduce a brand new community site for handheld games and collectors:
www.handheldempire.com
Features:
- everything is free
- detailed game database
- members may:
-- manage their own virtual handheld collection, describe each game with 'state scores', public and private notes, price, buy date ...
-- keep wishlist
-- offer games for sale or trade
-- comment and rate games
- shared game database management (via right system; create/modify games, write descriptions...)
- ...
This is not a regular commercial/free site template customized for handheld games, but a real web application designed for this purpose.
I hope we could form an expert panel here to improve usability and specify new features of that site.
I'm open to develop new modules to make it better, any comment is welcomed (except about my english ). |

Yeah, this is shaping up to be a pretty cool database. You can log in and create an online inventory of your own personal collection, and even grade individual parts of each game (and the boxes) and upload pictures. It's actually some of the things I've always wanted to do to my site but don't really have the programming skills to do it...

Unfortunatelly the community site is not so busy as I tought it will be.
Should I add any new features that makes it more popular? Any comment welcome!
Latest modules:
- picture uploader: now any game instance may have its own pictures
- search: currently in game names only (as there are no comments/descriptions yet) |

I had a few hours to improve the site.
I made an advanced search option. Now you can find games by:
- case color
- shape
- battery type and number
- number of players
- number of screens |

One of the biggest milestone achieved!
One goal of the community site is to help people to trade or sell games. A non-member guy wanted a handheld game, searched on the internet for it and found the site where one of the members had it for sale. He registered and made contact with the seller. It was the first known successfull transaction assisted by the site.
I was so inspired that I made two new service to help trading:
1. Whenever a member adds a game to his/her own collection and that game is in your wishlist you will receive an email notification.
2. Any member could warn all members who interested if he/she found a game on eBay. You need to select that game, copy its eBay ID in the appropriate fileld and click on the 'notify' button. All members who put that game on their wishlist will be notified by email.
These services may be turned on/off per game.
Enjoy. |

Some new features:
I created a new serial view using some game relations: serial, manufacturer and licensee. It yields a matrix. Here are a few example 1 2 3, those shows how companies license and customize games. The first one for example shows a 'hole' in the matrix so we might suppose that Grandstand - Richman game exists.
There are a lot of games still not ordered into serials. Most database treats licensees as the same game due to fragmentation issues so even common games still not catalogized yet.
I've also created many statistical pages those shows the current state of the database and the virtual collection of the members like most common games, most wanted games, only one copy, no known copy ...
I'm still open to upgrade the database and the services rely on.
Administrators also wanted.
Any feedback welcome. _________________ www.HandheldEmpire.com: open vintage hand-held game database and collectors' site. |

I was not pleased with the look & feel of the site from the beginning so I took some time to make it friendlier and easier to use.
I've also added some new features:
- sign in with facebook account, no need to create yet another account th use HandheldEmpire features
- feel free to like any games on facebook
- the serial view matrix (examples above) is now available for the virtual collection of a member so it is much more visual which games are missing _________________ www.HandheldEmpire.com: open vintage hand-held game database and collectors' site. |

Yep, in contrast with the title of the topic the server was down for a few hours, but it is live again. _________________ www.HandheldEmpire.com: open vintage hand-held game database and collectors' site. |
