|
|
Just in case this tiny, undocumented change to the main page of the Museum was missed, I've posted up a page with all of my original screen-used movie props. I've always kind of been interested in them, but usually the things I really want either aren't available or cost $1000's. But, I finally managed to pick up some things that only cost $100's. Most of the collection I obtained at an auction last week, so it's only the beginning...
(But don't worry, I'm still after handheld games, and the museum isn't going anywhere. )

Anyone else here have any movie props? (real or replica)

An interesting hobby Rik! As you say it sounds like it could be very expensive!
I'm sorry to say I don't think I have heard of many of the films you have props from and I haven't any of my own to show you, but I think I can help you out on one small detail. The red 'European car' in your collection seems to be a Renault 4 of around 1984 vintage

I look forward to seeing what else you find
The R2-D2 looks like quite a challenge! I don't know where you find the time for everything . It proves once again, you are indeed a man of many talents.

Cool, thanks for the car info... I thought it looked like a slightly modified Mini or something, but it's definitely a Renault 4... Thanks, now I can update the description (and I know what kind of logo to look for to put on the front grill.)
Yeah, R2 will take some time... Especially when I don't really _have_ time for everything. Hopefully by the end of the year he will at least be presentable.

Oh, I'm not going anywhere... But at least most of the people that sell movie props have the common sense to let an auction end normally.
And besides, there's handheld games that ARE movie props... I'll have to get at least one of those...

It probably stands for 'property'. As in 'movie property'. Basically, it just refers to any item used during the filming of a movie (used on screen, that is). So, when that Galaxian game was used by an actor in the Doom movie:
http://www.handheldmuseum.com/Movies/Doom.htm
It became a 'movie prop'. I could just buy any Futuretronics Galaxian game and have a 'replica movie prop', or I could try to hunt down the one that was actually used and have a 'screen-used movie prop'.
But I think 'Prop' is just a word by itself these days...

Spot on, Rik, that is indeed the etymology!

Yeah, I noticed that... I'm very familiar with Elstree Props- They've worked on Star Wars, the Indy movies, and lots of others...
I was kind of surprised to see that they registered here... There's a link to the Forum on my Movie Prop page, I suspect that's how they found it... Not much prop talk here though. Hehe...

OUCH!! Someone stole R2D2 from his collection!!
I think Linda pointed out a year ago the problem of NOT publicising too much on the internet and being afraid personally ,and in second hand, for the collection, about some "strange and unsolicited encounters".
There is a famous guy here in Italy which is , if I don't recall wrong the first or second biggest collector of the world of everything gaming related to Japan. A collection of over 10.000 games .Well I now understand why he has his entire collection in a secret and guarded caveau.

hi alex
yes that's a very big ouch! an original r2d2 must be the coolest prop ever! and as far as i know it wasn't the first time they stole him stuff!
making your collection online always pushes your connections and therefor your collection, but at the same time it's a big risk! like walking on razors edge!
but after buying that much games theres just no money left for a big vault!
