Hey all....

I was perusing on eBay yesterday, when I saw this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISA.....TQ:US:1123

I kindly wrote to the seller telling him that his pictured item was of a Pac-Man VFD Handheld...NOT a Galaxian model as he mentioned in his auction.

So, he writes this back to me:

http://contact.ebay.com/ws/eBa.....mp;frm=284

"This is a 2380 Galaxian/Pacman manufactured by Midway under license from Coleco. Please do some research about Midway why Midway decided to call their 1981 version of PAC-MAN, Galaxian while labeling it as PAC-MAN."

Now, I have done some research on this model...and I have yet to find anything that says Coleco mysteriously or accidentally mis-labeled these 2 games as one or the other...

Can anyone please shed some light on this for me?
I was only being a nice guy to the seller...but now his somewhat condescending remark is kind of irritating me....

Any help would be appreciated...

peace
han

I look forward to hearing from you in the future.

It probably has a Galaxian battery cover on the bottom. That's where the model number would be (2380 is indeed Galaxian, 2390 is Pac-Man).

I really don't know how to respond to the fact that he apparently has no idea what Pac-Man is... Rolling Eyes

Rik

Edit: I send him this: Cool Let's see if he posts that into the auction listing...

Um, not to be rude, but where did you find research stating that Coleco called Pac-Man 'Galaxian'? What you are selling is a Coleco Pac-Man handheld game (which should be #2390). Galaxian (which is 2380) is a completely different game (different colors, different game play, different controls, etc). The battery cover for Galaxian, however, will fit on a Pac-Man game, so I'm assuming that's where you are getting your information (you have the wrong battery cover on the game). Coleco licensed Pac-Man directly from Namco/Midway, as well as Galaxian. Two completely different games. Fortunately, any prospective buyers can clearly see you are selling a Pac-Man game...

Yeah, she responded saying it was the battery cover that says 'Galaxian 2380' and that's why she listed it like she did... She also that if I was correct, it's too late to change the listing... Rolling Eyes Not that anyone can't tell what it really is... But it's obviously got the wrong battery cover.

It'll be really funny if she finds a Galaxian with a Pac-Man cover...

I noticed she didn't post _my_ question to the auction...

Nor mine! I tried reinforcing you guys:

Dude, that's a PacMan, Galaxian is a completely different game, "do some research" yourself and you will not sound like a tool next time.

To which she (I later realized, not he) replied:

Actually you sound like a "tool," seems a bit too compulsive. If you wish to bid then do so.

Which doesn't even make sense. So I wrote back:

Nice buyer relations. I write you to help you out and this is the response? I wasn't calling you a tool, I was pointing out that you sounded like one when someone else wrote to help you out and you told them to do research that you obviously didn't do yourself. Then you posted it to the auction! What a laugh! Your SO is right, you have a lot to learn about selling on eBay all right. Maybe I should bid, and then file a not as described and neg you when I don't get a Galaxian game? (Don't worry, I won't.) Good luck.

Was I too hard on her? Twisted Evil

ha ha ha !! Laughing

I sent her this :

Quote:
Hi, might I remind you that it is a fraud selling something with the wrong name. This is a Pacman game where you slipped in the Galaxian battery cover. It is misleading to say the least!
Please since you can't change the title and description anymore, you can ADD the correct information in the eBay listing.
Alex

She replyed with this :

Quote:
Do you have anything better to do with your life? The picture and listing reflect what is being offered. Perhaps one of your friends slipped in the battery case because I didn't. If you don't like what is being offered you don't have to bid.

Guess what ? She updated the listing :

I have been inundated with a few teenagers telling me that this is a Pacman and that the battery cover has the wrong label on it. I am not an expert on 1981 electronic games except that this one works great. I urge you to look closely at the picture because apparently the battery cover that I read the information about the game will fit all the 27 year-old Midway manufactured games. Nevertheless this game looks and works great!

TEENEGERS !! LOL!!

Well, I think we are all kids at heart to be into these games in the first place, but that's a good thing!

(How can you be inundated with a few of something, anyway?)
