Welcome Rath! Glad you joined up!
About the Club Nintendo prizes, we have 'Rewards' you can earn in the club:
https://club.nintendo.com/rewards.do
But nothing about a Game & Watch that I can find... What do you have to do in Club Japan to get the Ball game?
As for Rath, I've known about him since before I started the Handheld Museum. WAY back in 1999 or 2000 I discovered a site that I called Valkyrie because of the URL (couldn't read any of the Japanese on the site itself...) :
http://www2c.airnet.ne.jp/valkyrie/index.html
(Doesn't work anymore, no need to click it )
He had tons of games I'd never heard of before! (This was before eBay really introduced us all to the Japanese market...) It was really exciting, and I still have a couple of little images from that site on the Museum, linking back to that old page.
Here's a picture of some of his collection from 9 or 10 years ago. At the time I couldn't identify probably half of these games, if not more...:
That's just been sitting in my site's directory forever... I kind of used it as a check list.
Finding his site was one of the main reasons I finally decided to make the Handheld Museum in the first place... So you can thank him for that too.

Hellow.
The ball of G&W is a present to the member of the platinum of Club nintendo.
It has already been decided that the ball of G&W is presented from Club nintendo to me in April, 2010.
As for this ball, some minor changes are done.
The battery changes from LR43 to CR2032.
ON/OFF of the sound becomes possible.
In clubs nintendo other than Japan, is such a present done?
Hi.Rik.
10 years passed after it had taken a picture of this image.
My collection is about 1500 now.
About 90% of my collection can be confirmed on my friend's Web page.

I got my Game and Watch Ball reproduction in the mail this week (1200 Nintendo Points).
https://club.nintendo.com/rewards-details/a/15515.do
..and is it me or is it smaller than the original? While I have a lot of Game & Watches (in boxes at my Mom's house) they're all the Widescreen versions and not the original Silver/Gold series. I used to have Fire as a kid but that got broken and destroyed years ago. :p
Is my memory just bad?

Silver and Gold G&W are much much smaller than widescreens.
Congratulations on getting that game, I'm pretty sure it's a highly collectable item _________________ http://www.madrigaldesign.it/ |

aah ok that makes sense. I was looking at it and it immediately reminded me of the Nintendo resized keychains.. just a little bit bigger.
The Keychains always bugged me since they didn't fully recreate the gameplay of the originals. So they were obviously re-creations. But since the original G&W's are hardware based perhaps that was just the way it had to be done. And truthfully, unless you were intimately familiar with the nuance & timing of the original games (like Donkey Kong Jr.) you'd never notice it.
I wonder how much of the Ball reproduction is faithful to the original? The casing already feels modern and a lot sturdier. I wonder if they redid the game from scratch as they would in something like the Game & Watch gallery games, or I wonder if it's as best a reproduction of the actual hardware as they could do.. timing and all. |

I read they tried their best. Fun fact: to hide the connectors in the original silver series, Nintendo used a black mask on the screen. It was not needed any more on later games, but on this reproduction, they added the mask again, just like in 1980. Also the sound mute option is a hidden feature: the looks are not altered by adding some text on the case. |
