Hi All,
Does anyone remember a late 70's early 80's handheld game with an orange alien streaming down the screen and a 'UFO' that went across the very top of the screen for bonus points! As far as I can remember the casing was light blue with yellow left/right buttons at the bottom and a yellow fire button on the right side (for your thumb) and yellow plastic moulding around the outside/top. Also think it was also called "Missile <something>".
Been trying to locate one of these for years - for no reason other than the ye olde memories!
thanks
Mark. |

I keep thinking of games like this:
http://www.handheldmuseum.com/Tandy/Cosmic1000FireAway.htm
But they all have joysticks, not buttons... Hmm...
What country was this in? That might help. (It's probably something obvious I just can't remember. )

Right! Have scouted around this website and found something VERY similar in the 'Entex Space Invader' - however the 'thing' I had was powered by 1 single 9V battery.
Great website... |

Heh, I know it would be something obvious I just wasn't thinking of...
I figured it was a Space Invaders clone of somekind, but completely forgot about the little Bandai games... |

Welome to the forum Mark,
I remember good old Terry Wogan on Blankety Blank . The show wasn't the same after he left :-/ .
I have just checked and I do have a fully functional spare Bandai Missile Invader if your still interested. I also have a spare boxed Bandai Super Galaxy Invader
http://www.handheldmuseum.com/Bandai/SGI.htm
which is the daddy version of your old game and a much more adult size. It could do with a good clean and I haven't tested it yet but I don't remember it not working.
All the best,
Neil. |

Hi Neil,
As it happens I'd be very much interested in both of them.
Many thanks,
Mark. |

It looks like I've got my work cut-out restoring a (currently) non-functional Bandai 1979 Super Missilevader.
Now where's that iron, flux and solder I used to know how to use!!!
ANY help would be appreciated.....

So I've opened the non working Bandai Super Missilevader and found that the battery compartment and secondary circuit had disintigrated (the one with the start switch and the fire/left/right buttons). So I need to rebuild that!
Good news though, after cleaning-up the main board - I hooked up some power and 'presto' the electronics work! Well without the facier I've got a series of red lights moving and firing more red lights!
So after the kids go to bed, I'll be 'mostly rebuilding the Missilevader' for the next week or so.

So with the kids safely tucked in bed, with initial hesitation I re-opened the Bandai Super Missilevader, rebuilt 35% of the battery compartment contacts, re-soldered flat on/off contacts from the metal strips off an old Munchman AM/PRO button and rebuilt the fire button (which was completely gone) with the metal strips from the Off/On button from the same munchman - well that was beyond repair
So the Bandai Super Missilevader is alive and works/sounds great - well for 1979 anyway!!!
Can't wait to show my kids in the morning who'll say "Dad, that's rubbish - is that all it does". How could they possibly understand?
A very content Mark... |

Cool! It's always nice to hear about a game being resurrected from the dead! (Zombie games? I think that should be a new category...)
