Ebay seller peanie sell's Adventure vision on the 21st Dec for $1,705 to ebay id theyorkguy.
This is it: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Entex-....._558wt_881
I look at the ebay feedback for theyorkguy and noticed he sold a Adventure vision on the 14th Dec to cafebabe_de. cafebabe_de gives him positive feedback. Hmmm thats very odd. This guy has sold a AV for $1k then 1 week later bought another AV for $1.7K - Huh!.
It's this one
http://www.ebay.com/itm/200684634413#ht_500wt_898.
It gets stranger, looked on ebay today and theyorkguy is selling the same AV he sold on the 14th again - what ? Edit: actually he's selling the one he bought on the 21st as per Rik's comment below.

If you look at the description of the Adventure vision's all three listing are the same machine - note the mention of the chip in the plastic in the top right of the Av. It says that in all 3 listing's ie the 2 by the theyorkguy and the one by peanie. This makes absolutely no sense. Something very fishy is happening here. Edit: As per Rik's comments below , only the last 2 machines are the same , the first (on the 14th) was not chipped.
Rik , can you make sense of this, it looks sooooo Dodgy!

theyorkguy sold this on one Dec 14th:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/200684634413
That one is only sold once (look at the wear around the power switch), to cafebabe_de, who is in Germany (not the same DE that theyorkguy lives in...). There is no mention of a chip on this one...
He later (December 21) buys this one from peanie:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/180776073251
This is the one with the broken chip on top, but otherwise looks a lot nicer and has most of the cartridges. Maybe he's upgrading?
Now he's selling it for whatever reason here:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/200713416231
I notice with only the Defender cart, so he's apparently keeping the others. It also now has a battery cover with a broken tab on it, where it had two good tabs when it was originally sold. He's obviously swapped out the battery cover too.
Nothing suspicious about it, just someone buying and re-selling them... Looks like he's buying them to upgrade parts for his personal machine.

Still doesn't make complete sense. He sells a good AV on the 14th for $1K , then buys a chipped and average one on the 21st for $1.7K which he is now selling again. All this to keep 2 games - who would do that?
Edit: in regards to the battery cover, he could have swapped the cover on the good one he sold if he wanted to. This is assuming he has another he is swapping parts over for. |

But he didn't sell a 'good one', he sold a 'working on' that was heavily used. And it also had a broken battery cover (this is actually very common...). And he needed the two games (I assume). How else do you plan on getting them? You almost never find the games forsale separately...
And as for the cost, money doesn't bother some people... Hell, I spent a LOT more than that on my mint boxed AV...
And I have more than one of them myself... I even put one on display at shows to let people play. _Everyone_ has called me crazy for doing that...

No, the first one he sold on the 14th also had a broken battery cover. So, unless he actually broke the battery cover on the second one himself, there's another system we haven't seen...
I don't know, that's just what I see... I've spent more money on something than it was really worth just to get a really hard-to-find piece of it... Especially if it's a piece that is frequently broken or missing. Other than not being concerned with the cost, I don't see anything unusual with this. He knows what it's worth... I bet after the current one sells, the difference in price will be a fair price for 2 games and a battery cover. |

Hi.
I do this quite a bit too.
I'll by a used watch just for the inside parts. Then I'll fix a watch that is in great condition and I can usually sell the not working watch or leftover parts to get some money back.
This guy sure does it on a grand scale though! That's dedication!

I'll bow to your better eye sight Rik, to me the battery cover looks fine on the first one he sold. That one also had the joystick(The others didn't) and looked in good shape to me. Again , maybe it's my eyes.
Probably work out for him in the end, we will have to wait and see what it goes for. |

On that first auction (the one from Dec 14th), look at the first picture (click on Enlarge to get the huge, full-size image). Look at all the damage (wear from use) on the printing around the controls, especially around the power switch. That's a VERY used game.
Then the forth picture of the bottom with the battery cover, notice the lower square hole. There should be a clip there like the upper hole. That clip is broken off. Both clips are present on the one he bought for $1700, and one clip is again missing on the one he's selling now... (One or more of these clips is frequently broken off the cover...)
Probably already has the silver thing on his AV, so wasn't concerned about it...
When you've seen (and fixed) as many as I have, you get to know what to look for in terms of condition, and what parts are frequently missing or damaged.
The silver joystick top, the battery cover, and the expansion port cover on the side are the things to always look for. Paint wear around the control happens on any system that has been played with a fair amount. There other types of 'wear' or damage that are usually found when handling the unit (and rarely noticed or described in auction listings), so even with the knowledge of the suspect areas, you have no idea what might be wrong with it. I remember seeing one forsale where the red plastic screen was missing... Always wondered what the story was behind that one. |

So The Av sold for $860 which means if you include paypal etc fees he's out about $900 - $1000 all for a better battery cover and 2 loose AV games. Was it worth that much? |

Well, if you assume a loose AV with Defender is worth about 900-1000 (or maybe about 860 )
And a loose one with 3 games is worth $1500-1700 (which does seem a little high actually), what he currently has (system and 3 games) is worth $1500+, and he sold his single-game unit for $860... So he still has the $1500 system, he's just opted to keep it.
I hardly ever see individual games for the system forsale (and if I do, it's usually Defender) as they made far less of the 3 other games than they did systems. So, buying systems with games is about the only way to get them.
I'd guess the loose carts for the two non-Defender games might sell for $200-250 each... (I think...) |
