| Doesn't matter if it's handheld or tabletop or lcd or led or vdf, Nintendo game and watch aside, which are fun to play? I'd like to add a couple to my small at the moment collection of handhelds, but want something that is fun to play and addictive if possibe. |

CGL Super Kong/Lansay Crazy Kong is the best Donkey Kong handheld ever. It has all the original 4 levels combined into 2, plays very smooth, has great graphics and is very addictive. If you don't have it, get one! And be glad it is heavily underrated, so it does not cost a fortune. And since you are in the UK, it is easy to get (sold only in France and the UK with some leaking just across those countries borders)
It is so good, I'm still puzzling whether it is the best VFD game ever made. Other contenders are Gakken Amidar, Bandai Burger Time, Epoch Astro Thunder 7 and Parker Brothers Q*bert. That it is in this list is exceptional, as the other four have more powerfull micro's. They managed to pull a whole lot of game out of that HD38800, and it even includes attraction mode. |

Come on, 26 euro that is ... 10 beers. And then their is Paypal protection. Don't be a sissy!
The French version is cooler too, as it has the official license name.
And VFD games are never real dead (unless the tube is broken, but you can't damage that without heavily damaging the case too). 99% chance it will work, even if you can't read the french that says it works. It does say that the contacts may fault sometimes, but that is usually means you just need to clean it (not strange after 30 years) |

Sissy?!  lol.
Including p&p the french one is 26 euro (currently about £22) and the UK one including p&p, is £23 (providing it has one bidder) plus I will get it alot sooner.
So, I'll bid on the UK one first and use the other as a last resort.
Thanks for your advice though, there are alot of kong games and it was hard to pick one out of the crowd. |

The only catch with this is most VFD games have an A/C adapter port, and they are rarely labeled with voltage and polarity. Plug in the wrong adapter, and you fry the game. Nearly every 'non working' VFD I've had is because of this.
It's usually fixable (if you can solder), usually just a bad transistor (handy how they frequently act like fuses), but it is surprisingly common as someone at sometime in the game's life is liable to have plugged in any adapter they had that fit... 
But, yeah, if the VFD isn't broken, they can almost always be fixed. I actually had one game that had a bad CPU chip... Not sure how that happened, but that was the only one I wasn't able to repair (well, I could have replaced the CPU I suppose, but that's not something you can buy like a transistor.  I just saved the VFD in case I get a game with a cracked one someday...)
In fact, I think I have one of these Gakken Kong games in my 'to be fixed' pile... Might have to look into that. |
