Rik, how do you get the pictures of the handheld so nice? If you have a Mac, I would understand(being able to take a picture).

A decent camera (mine was about $400), mount it on a tripod and don't use the flash (causes too much direct glare). I actually have a light-box that I put the games in to take the pictures. But if you have enough room-lighting, turn off the flash and take the picture in a way that you don't have to touch the camera when the picture is actually snapped. My camera has a remote that I can use from a distance, but most cameras at least have a timer function. Set the timer, then press the button and let go of the camera so it can take the picture. Without a flash, it's going to want a longer exposure that will be out of focus if you are trying to hold the camera.
I don't use Macs... 
Just figure out what your problem is, and work on that. If your images are blurry, don't hold the camera (and don't get too close, some cameras can't focus closer than 2 or 3 feet). If they are bright/washed out, don't use the flash (and don't hold the camera).
Obviously there are professional solutions as well, but that's usually more than we need for our little hobby...
