FIRST THING: To be detailed and consistent, I feel like I should talk about the improvements I am thinking about for the unit without ruining the aesthetic style and retro nostalgia.
THE SCREEN: I actually noticed a 2nd cause for screen rot on the microvision. There is a fairly noticable frame that surrounds the screen and is screwed into the PCB. The frame is dangerously frail due to the poor molding of said screen matrix. Also, the screen was not that great in the first place, with the rudementary blocks needing to be smaller and the games being limited cause of it. I figured that a dot matrix display the same size of the original screen would be acceptable and more clean. Plus, the screen is multi phase so you can play in the standard mode, however; the games depend on the display phases that are available to them.
THE CONNECTOR: Anybody that collects games for the microvision should be able to know the cause of ESD (ElectroStatic Discharge) The connector for the microvision is on each cartridge and so is the CPU making a hazard that renders the unit KIA. I thought using A standard 18 pin brass connector would be better than silver or gold, but the design is not of a normal connecter, but more like a bar of connector pins that is protected by a side opening door.
CONTROLS: The normal materials for the controls are not well suited for long play and hard pressing. Despite limited rescources of materials in the late 70's, The problems with foreign systems and american system controls could have still been improved before it died. I believe touch sensitive controls are the only best rescource for the type of structure of the lower section, utilizing a tactile 'basin' that follows certain response codes that the amount of tactiles are compressed. The component that is used to make this work is a small "tile" that is screwed onto the cartridge
control section. The TS (touch sensitive "tile") works using slightly forced taps to play the games. The paddle controller is improved 100% it doesnt have the break off problem of the normal unit, and moves faster to.
PACK IN VARIATIONS:
Arcade- includes blockbuster, alien raiders, and pinball
sport- includes baseball, Auto Race (new).
EXTRA INFO: The new microvision would utilize a CR2032
lithium memory battery for score saves.
Oh, and I didnt say Im a new member didnt I... Sorry Rik. |

Nice that you agree with me! And Im shocked that pong never made it to the microvision! Plus, I think a racing game could have been good for the microvision. Football would also be good for the paddle controller! _________________ "Emulators are for the non collectors" |

Im currently debating if I should combine the designs of the foreign and the original or just leaving the regular U.S cartridge.
But here are the new games and technical features for them:
-Bowling Pro (moves faster, has more pins and more movement freedom.
Dot matrix Phase utilized)
-Baseball Pro (Utilizes the Dot matrix Phase)
-Cubious (Gyruss/Tempest style game utilizing the Dot matrix Phase)
-Pong (Scaling included, Plays like the original, and has double screen Phases)
-Car racing (Double display modes)
-Football/Yard kicker (Utilizing auto scaling, Dot matrix utilized only)
-Auto aimer (Point and shoot game, Dot matrix only)
-SpaceCons (A "dash" based "schump" shooter, Dot matrix only)
-Phaser Strike 200- ( Improved phaser strike with classic and new modes)
Plus each time you turn on the system you will be greeted by a option
screen depicting on what screen mode the game will play with. NOTE:
The option's availability squarely depends on what game you play, for
example: The new and pro games have single screen modes. _________________ "Emulators are for the non collectors" |

Here are a couple of things I left out:
-If you turn the system on, You will have your Highest score will be shown
-There is an emergency shutoff on the upper left corner of the screen.
This would allow the system to shut off if you remove the cartridge while
its on.
-there is a sound ON/OFF under the basin area
-contrast is set on a three level switch on the back of the system.
So I hope this impresses you Rik. _________________ "Emulators are for the non collectors" |
