I was at Target and saw a line of LCD games from Basic Fun. Space Invaders first caught my eye, looked like a pretty good version. They have Monopoly, Operation, Battleship, Scrabble, Centipede, Frogger, and more. Priced at $7.99 each.
Part of me likes that LCD games can still exist in this day and age. Still, I have to wonder who is paying $7.99 for one of these things when there are phone app games for 99 cents or free that have XBox style HD graphics. I guess people who can't afford smart phones? I get that, but do people still play the primitive LCD stuff? I do, and I'd like to pick these up, but I can pick up an older LCD off eBay for $3 instead. |

Well, not very long ago I picked up space invaders and a few other handhelds to entertain three 7-year-olds on a two-hour drive to the zoo. Being inexpensive and durable, along with their absurdly long battery-life, made them an ideal option.
They were a bit hit with the kids as well. Apparently, they don't need flashy HD graphics either. |
