Yeah, but that's the date the chip was manufactured... It could have (in fact, likely was) made months before the game was assembled and put in stores. Also, if the game was popular, new batches would be made and the dates would be different.
That's not an indication of when the game was first released in stores... |

I know, but it gives a good idea about batches. Also, it sets aside some misconception like Dig Dug or Ms Pac Man being from 1982. There are no games with CPU's from 1982, so it can't be from that year. |

Ms Pac-Man (Coleco) was released in 1983 (which I see now is incorrect on the website, excuse me while I go fix that... )
Not quite sure about Dig Dug, but I have Amidar listed as 1981, so DD is probably 82 or 83... (Although that information was from the original FAQ that I didn't create, so I'm not sure where it came from...)
You can't really say 'there are no games with CPU dates from 1982' as I'm sure you have only seen very few of them... It's possible a small run was done toward the end of 1982, and as the game proved popular they manufactured more throughout 83 or something... |

I tried to look at one of my Dig Dugs, do you have to take the VFD off to see the writing on the chip? The side I could see was just black, but I couldn't tell if it was painted over or if I was just looking at the bottom of it...
(I hate when the CPUs are under the VFD like that... ) |

Tic-Tac-Toe is 'electric', not 'electronic'...
'Electronic' means digital electronics (microchips, transistors, etc). TTT is just a bunch of switches and light bulbs. There's even older games that would qualify as 'electric' like the Cragstan Periscope game from the 60s.
So, for 'electronic' games, Mattel Auto Race is still the first.
