As far as what I have to say about Taki and his store as a seller, my comments are absolutely positive .He is kind and communicative and will help you through the buying process. And this is important in case you could have some issue of any sort.
About his prices? Go and check that canadian seller or the ever present Sexysi have to offer.Nobody obligates you to buy from him. A month ago I was in touch with him to buy with a favorable price and shipping discount two Bandai games. We exchange several email and I was just a click away from buying. But at that point I told him that I had to take a little bit of time bacause I was thinking to buy several smaller and less important games in order to make the collection grow numericaly. In the mean time searching eBay I found the same two NOS games that were selling in Japan for a lot less.SO... I bought them there! The moral is that nobody forces you to buy at that certain price,if you do it is because at that moment you think it's a reasonable price to pay for a good.He 's there and I hope he stays there for a long time! Very Happy
A different thing is with Sexysi. He INTERFERES with us collectors because he partecipates at the auction making the prices much higher. And this ONLY with the purpose of making money in reselling them.He just ripped me off of 3 Bandai Gundam games that a japanese seller had.I don't buy the story that he is a collector too!!! Of course he's doing nothing illegal...but it makes me angry! Evil or Very Mad

Here is a very rare Tiger King Kong Pop-up game.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISA.....amp;ih=009

I'll probably only put in a small "if i get it at this price it's a bargain" type bid since I already have one. But since this so rare maybe a few others will really want it. It's discolored, but rare. This is only the 4th or 5th one that I know of. Happy bidding.

i find that just about EVERYTHING sold by Chickeneater is ridiculously priced. i would have bought so much crap from him but even with his prices cut in half it's still a damn rip-off.

oh, and this Epoch Cassette game console might be rare as heck, but i think it too is ridiculous:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Epoch-Cass.....dZViewItem

ok after re-reading this hours later, it sure does sound a little harsh. older items, such as VFD Epoch/Tandy/Coleco/Ect tabletops are indeed priced "right". i should have narrowed the complaint down to more recent games that are high-priced, such as the Tiger Electronics LCD games of the 90s, and most anything from the 00s.

it may be just that i have to realize the stuff i grew up with in the late 80s and early 90s are now considered vintage. thus, i am an old man.

my apologies, Chickeneater.

Rik, I bet it does not it. This is one going the distance. And I posted under the wrong message thread, by mistake. That may cut back on the number of bidders.

I've just put a little bid on it aswell. Hopefuly the more people bid on it the less likely the person will agree to ending it early.

I know this game (I Took a Lickin' From a Chicken) is desirable in the box and all, but I wrote the seller and it turns out the chicken doesn't even move! And he did not take that opportunity to add that slightly significant bit of info to his listing! So don't bid or make an offer unless you want a broken one! (For $195 I think anyone who neglected to ask would expect it to work!):

hi alex,
im not sure of the problem regarding 3 bandai games but maybe i can clear up a few issues for you.yes i do a service and a very good service to collectors worldwide see feedback.like you say its not illegal for me to bid on items (usually 90% of the time i bid low-saves me having to put in watching tray)so this can not be drumming up the prices !! if i bid high it means i want it !!
i have a very heathy private collection which i am very proud of being a child from the 80's so in answer to you comment yes i am a collectors and love my hobby with a passion Cool

Hello Simon, nice to meet you!
I hope that my english could enable me to make my thinking understandable.
Ok where do I start?
First of al I'll like to excuse myself if I sounded a little overcrtitic in that post , but I was just beaten by you on a last second bid on those Bandai Gundam games that you are now currently selling...so pardon if I hurt you!
Second :KNOWLEDGE IS POWER,and this 'cause I didn't know you where a collector too (and one of the biggest!)so you are a legittimate contender on the eBay arena(see the dispute on this forum about dissapering items!)
And this ,if I might say, is YOUR fault just like that of Taki. You sellers have to comunicate with us collectors we are not just buyers.Exchange thoughts and opinions, and this even to erase those metropolitan legends that might arise about you as a seller. And the fact that you joined this forum goes to your credit!
BUT I stand still in my opinion!!
Ok , let's make a simple and childish reasoning.
Let's imagine that your customers are rich people ,Hollywood stars or wealthy people. What would you do ? You do the dirty work searching day and night on eBay and you buy at whatever the price (always stellar) the things that you know your customers want and only them can pay. What do you think that the mass of collectors think about this?Do they approve this?
Did I go far away from the reality?
I know here in Italy a guy that you might also know MEGOIONI .He sells rare electronic games and other rare stuff but he travels day and night to find old warehouses where he finds those old and precious stuff. He pays them nothing and reseels them for thousands. That's the way it should work in my opinion. He dosn't MAKE the market on eBay buying games in the auctions. He makes the market ,with his stellar gains, outside eBay.That is a service to the collectors!!!!He finds stuff that otherways might have gone thrown away and puts it on the market. It's not a question of prices! It a matter of opportunity and to me you look a little bit opportunistic! It's just one more step in the chain from the producer to the customer.BUT YOU DON'T BUY AT A WHOLESALER!!!!!!!!THAT IS THE POINT!
Quote:

That NOS Bandai Gundam game if it weren't for you(WE WERE THE ONLY 2 BIDDERS) it would have been in MY collection.NOW it's in your store! If you sell it you gain, the rich buyer gains and I loose. Not everyone is a winner!!

Personally I think both Chickeneater and Sexysi's prices are way too high - I'd rather wait for an item to come up for auction and outbid others than buy it now for an inflated price and know that i'm lining the pockets of some ebay trader. I find it surprising that their prices aren't lower - that way they'd shift more stock and i'm sure still turn a healthy profit. Having just checked 7 pages of Sexysi's feedback it shows that he sells a lot of low value stuff and the high value stuff he shifts is mainly Game & Watches which attract that sort of $$ anyway. But £80 for a boxed Astro Wars when they're common as muck is just crazy!!! As for the rarer items... eg. £200 for a Sherman Attack - the last one i saw went for £100 at auction, so again, you're paying well over the odds. My trawl through his feedback history illustrates the fact that the high value stuff's not selling which shows the market in general thinks it's overpriced.

It annoys me too when I see him bidding on stuff which i know will go straight in to his store at a vastly inflated price. We're not suckers you know! The thing is I'd contemplate buying from ebay traders, and am willing to pay a premium for something rare, but not when I know that the mark up is so high.

I've really started to notice this a lot in my other hobby now (movie prop collecting). I've seen several items sell on Ebay or at live auctions for say $300, and then I see the same item on a 'dealer' web page a month later for $1000. Occasionally someone will fall for it, but they have the added benefit of someone seeing it that doesn't watch eBay and will think it's worth that much.

But when someone buys a prop on eBay for $300, and turns around and relists it with a $600 BIN, it NEVER sells because all the collectors that see it on eBay already saw (and didn't bid on) the previous auction...

What Taki and Simon really need are several new people to suddenly get into collecting handheld games (that have a decent income) to just go nuts buying all their stuff... And it could happen.

But they do have some things that are fairly priced even by our standards, and I bet they would both accept reasonable offers for their games, especially if you want to buy several...

I suppose, technically, a LOT of the games in my collection are forsale for the right price... Sure, it's a price none of us (even myself) would pay (because I still want the games), but if someone offered me $1000 for my sealed Coleco Pac-Man, I'd probably part with it... Cool

Usually the games that I'm interested in are too expensive from these sellers but I must admit that Simons

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayI.....amp;ih=004
[Archived: 140166047368 ]

tempted me greatly yesterday as I feel it is a very fair price but it would be wasted on me. I'll wait till an unboxed one turnes up Smile .

The current £ to $ exchange rate probably makes his games seem more expensive to non UK residents.

Neil.

But let me point one thing out.I'm NOT making issues or remarks about the prices!Everyone is free to do whatever (legally speaking)wants.
What I'm talking about is HOW you do it.
This vintage handheld world is a fairly small niche of enthusiast and collectors in comparison to say the robots \gundam\popy or whatever it's called world. So when you do something that it is perceived by those people as negative you can't get away too easily.
Let me make an example.Today ,5 days after I paid for it I received this Ludotronic Raid Cosmique that is complete, box(much better and stiff than it looks in the pictures), 2 styro, instructions and a mint game:

http://cgi.ebay.it/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180165062511
[Archived: 180165062511 ]

As you can see I outbid Linda with a very last second snipe.Imagine this scenary:
now that I have the game that I bought for 55.00 euros plus 16,50 euros for the shipping,I call Linda with an eMail and tell her this:
"Hey Linda ,my collectors princess, look at this great find that I have here for you !!Look at the pictures it's beautifully mint it's complete , working ,a great find!!!
Do you want it? It's only 150.00 Euros!!But I'm doing this only for you so that everyone is a winner!!"

What do you think will Linda think of me?

A)Hey this guy loves me!I'm going to buy from him right away!
B)This is a great find!Thank God people like you help us collectors!!may God bless you!! or
C) What the *******************!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As I said it's not a matter of price or laws or rules. It's a matter of a behaviour that can be perceived as opportunistic!
I will buy from Simon as I did from Taki ,as long as he dosn't ban me from buying ,but only on those games that I might consider worthy of that kind of added value (sarcastic).

Alex

Some of their prices are way too high for me, but some others are ok.

I just bougth a boxed Tomy Lupin from Simon for 40 GBP (80 $). Was the price too high ? Maybe, maybe not, but the fact is i wanted it. I haven't seen one of those boxed since i began collecting.
Bottom line nobody forces us to buy from these guys.

As for the way they get their games, i hate to say this... but it's a free market out there, you like it or you don't. I know it's easy to say when you did not experience being beaten by someone who wants to sell it afterward, but still it's a free market. Not a perfect concept i agree.

I try to be a gentleman anytime i can, most of the time when i see one of you guys bid on a game i'll let it be. But if our hobby becomes more popular all of a suddenly i might think about it again.

That was actually a reasonable price for that game. It usually costs $35-60 in Japan. And then there's the $20-30 shipping charge, so it would easily cost you $60-90 to buy it direct from Japan. If he made money on that one, then he got a really good deal originally. Smile

I think I paid $70 total for mine (including the shipping) from Japan back in 2001.
