This is really cool... It's always either been tricky, or some what expensive to bid on things on Yahoo Japan, but now it looks like eBay and Yahoo are going to 'merge' so you can bid on Japanese auction through eBay:

Hopefully that will also increase the amount of sellers in Japan willing to ship overseas...

This is really good news!
It's all about democratizing the hobby and collecting toys and other cool items in general : )
One question still: will this proxy work only for US ebay users, or hopefully european or australasian users too? Maybe not initially, but a year later or so...
Still good news |

Really a good news.Hope they make some sort of translation .I'm still trying to figure out how to ask someone on Yahoo Japan about selling the games abroad.Where is the damn button ASK THE SELLER?
One consideration thought!
Will we see some sort of invasion of boxed and rare japanese games like the Bandai ones, with a consequent price drop,to say the least,on those games? Good news for those who will buy ,but bad news for those who allready have them in their collection and might have spent a gran on those games!

Yeah, this can be fun... On the left side of the auction listing, there are three grey colored lines with blue Japanese text. The bottom of the 3 is the 'ask seller' button. If you hover your mouse over it and look at the link, you will see 'qanda' in the link (Question and Answer). When you click on it, fill in the white square with your question, and click the button below it. Then, on the next screen, click the first button (confirmation I guess).
One nice thing about Yahoo auctions is as soon as you ask a question, it's posted in the QandA section immediately for everyone to see (as is his answer when he responds). Makes it a lot harder to try to scam people into selling things directly. (Of course, Yahoo also does not allow you to end auctions early for the most part, either. You have to pay an additional fee for that privilege when you list an item, and most people don't do it.)
If you look here:
http://page13.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/show/qanda?aID=r35833544
You can see an auction that I asked a question on (you have to be logged in to read the QandA section...). You can copy everything from 'Hi' to 'Thanks!!' and then paste it into auctions you want to ask about. It roughly says that I'm international, want to bid, if I win I will pay for the item + EMS postage and will mail the payment via registered mail so it will get to you (the seller) within 1 week.
EMS shipping will be $20-40 at least, so keep that in mind. Sending a letter registered mail I think is $18, so you are looking at a lot of shipping costs if they agree, so factor that into your bidding...
If they post a reply in Japanese, copy/paste it into babelfish.altavista.com for a wonderful Engrish translation (or appropriate language...) You can usually figure out what they are saying.
Hopefully all this will go away when they merge though.
There are currently some services that will handle bidding/communicating on Japanese items for you, so if there's something you MUST have, you can still get it (for a fee...)
Hope that helps a little...

Hmmm, interesting - I wondered how Yahoo auctions would be affected in Japan when supposedly Yahoo got out of the business. |

Actually, Yahoo didn't get out of the auction business, they just got out of it everywhere except Japan. eBay actually bailed out of Japan (there used to be an www.ebay.co.jp) because they just couldn't compete with Yahoo there. For some reason Yahoo took over that market.
I guess somewhere along the line they've managed to work out a deal.
