Description
The Digitor Learning Arithmetic Module was developed to assist students in mastering basic mental arithmetic computations in addition- subtraction- multiplication and division. It is recognized as being the first use of electronic technology for an educational purpose. This Digitor model used the Intel 4004. The Digitor was first manufactured in 1974 and later revised in 1977 to take advantage of state-of-the-art technology. Since 1974- over 100, 000 Digitors have been sold to school systems throughout the world.. TCM Boston label copy: Digitor Learning Arithmetic Module, 1974 The Digitor, with its embedded Intel 4004, is the first use of a microprocessor in education. The difficulty and length of arithmetic problems were set by adjusting the two side knobs. Students answered problems posed on the display panel by entering a number on the keypad. Correct answers were rewarded by a happy face and incorrect ones by a sad face. At the end of the exercise, Digitor displayed the number of problems answered correctly. Over 100,000 Digitors were sold worldwide by Centurion Industries of Redwood City, California. X558.85 Gift of Centurion Industries.
Really cool for a 1974 machine!!

Well, the Intel 4004 is the first true microcomputer-on-a-chip (what we call a CPU these days) that was mass-produced and available on the open market. So, technically, it is a computer, just built to basically be a learning calculator.
Neat device... Looks like you have the re-designed 1977 model, I wonder if that still runs on the 4004 or if they updated the CPU...
